We Don't Want Sludge Next Door!

Hello, all! If you're seeing this, it's because you gave me your email at the otherwise unproductive (and deliberately uninformative) meeting about the sludge they want to spread, adjacent to our various properties. I know a few people asked the sludge-guys if it was a done deal or if there were anything we could do to stop it, and they hemmed and hawed and didn't answer, because OF COURSE they're not going to tell us what we can do to stop it.

However, there was one lady there (Margaret Quigley) actually giving out good info- and according to her, all it would take to prevent the sludge being spread is 25 letters. Not a petition, for whatever reason, but 25 individual letters. There are several folks who don't have email (I'll send them letters through the post), and offer to send in everyone's letters together (certified, so they can't say they never got them. I'm offering the same to everyone else- if you want, you can either mail or email (and then I'll print) letters to me, and I'll send them in together.

Remember, it's not one letter per household. Couples and families, please send individual letters; you can write a big explanation of why you don't want it, or just say, 'I am opposed to the spreading of sludge anywhere in Louisa County. I do not give permission, condone, or accept the spreading of sludge on my property, property adjacent to mine, or anywhere in the county.' Or whatever- just make sure you make it clear that you DON'T want them to spread sludge. Tell your neighbors, tell other friends!!!

Things they couldn't answer:

  1. Human waste should not be spread near humans or food plants meant to be consumed

  2. If it's processed, what is it processed with, and THOSE chemicals would be harmful to us, our pets, our plants and water supply

  3. Who exactly is getting a monetary benefit from the spreading of sludge?

  4. What about the pharmaceuticals left over in human waste?

  5. If it doesn't pose a medical hazard, why is there a setback at all and why would they increase the setback for you if you gave them a doctor's note saying you have a medical condition?

  6. Why do they have absolutely no information from sites where they've spread sludge AFTER they spread sludge?

  7. They say 'the smell disperses within a week'- but it's not just the smell. It's aerosolized fecal matter and chemicals. What you can smell is the tiny tiny particles of poop in your nose and throat.

  8. Why did less than half the folks who would be affected get notified about the meeting?

  9. Why did the first letter get mailed AFTER the date of the first meeting?

  10. Why is it that almost every spot where it would be spread is owned by someone who doesn't even live in the area?

  11. Hundreds of other reasons....

We need to send these letters in ASAP. Please email them to me at atalikhan.shaheen@gmail.com. OR you can wait for the public notices that just ran in the Central Virginian on the 22 and 29 of Oct, and find out where to send them.

Please take care and get those sent in ASAP!!! Let me know of you have any questions!!
